France and direct PCT filing
Members of the European Patent Organization usually allow a direct PCT filing to each country’s national patent office as an alternative to a European Patent. Indeed the European patent office, recommends an European patent if protection is sought in 4 or more countries.
However France has opted out of PCT filings nationally. Direct filings are still possible with a PCT, but it must be done through the European Patent. Once the procedure is complete, France will grant a post examination validation, this is automatic.
